Through its legal staff, NCSBA provides local school systems with various services to help school districts navigate the continuous changes in school law and legal requirements. Services include providing legal updates and training on legal issues, administering superintendent searches, and overseeing the administration of the North Carolina Council of School Attorneys. Legal Memoranda are issued by NCSBA Legal Counsel to interpret and provide guidance for school systems on changes to legal requirements. NCSBA legal staff assists local boards of education with administering Superintendent Searches in an efficient, confidential manner. The North Carolina Council of School Attorneys (NCCOSA) is an affiliate organization of NCSBA that is comprised of attorneys for local boards of education. NCSBA legal staff provides administrative support to NCCOSA including coordinating membership, organizing conferences, overseeing the ListServ and disseminating important information to the NCCOSA membership. The annual School Law Conference provides school board members, school administrators and school board attorneys with a unique opportunity to receive an in-depth look at legal issues of significance to public schools. The School Law Academy provides school administrators with information on basic school law, focusing on different issues essential to avoiding needless and costly litigation for the school system. Education Law in North Carolina is a subscription-based law treatise that provides electronic access to up-to-date information about laws that affect North Carolina public schools. ELNC addresses a wide range of legal issues, including the power and authority of the local board of education, student and personnel issues, special education, cyber law, and tort law. |
