The
Duplin County Board of Education in Duplin County, North Carolina, is seeking a
superintendent to lead the school system in its continuing pursuit of
excellence. Successful leadership experience
in a variety of educational settings is preferred. A successful candidate will be required to
live within the boundaries of the Duplin County school system. Applications are due by March 3, 2010.
The
position of superintendent requires a person who has excellent human relations
and interpersonal skills. The candidate
must possess the ability to communicate effectively with and enlist the
involvement of students, parents, faculty, staff and the Duplin County
community. The candidate should be
someone who is creative and innovative and who appreciates those
characteristics in others. The candidate
must be someone who consistently demonstrates integrity and behaves in an
ethical manner. The candidate should
also be someone who is reliable; who is self-confident, but receptive to the
opinions of others; and someone who has the ability and desire to work with
others in a team-building environment.
Candidates
must meet the legal requirements to serve as a superintendent in North
Carolina. The board is looking for an
individual who is a responsible instructional leader with the expertise to
successfully facilitate the development, implementation, and communication of a
shared vision of learning that reflects excellence and equity for all students. The candidate should be someone who is
climate sensitive and willing to work with others to ensure an environment that
is safe, secure, and respectful of diversity.
The successful candidate will be someone who possesses the skills to
organizationally manage and oversee the total school program and one who has
the ability to establish and maintain a relationship with the Board of
Education that is effective, equitable, and built on mutual trust and respect.
A successful candidate must
demonstrate ability and success in (1) educational leadership; (2) goal setting and monitoring achievement;
(3) fostering community and/or intergovernmental partnerships; (4)
administration and organization of long-term and short-term planning,
budgeting, personnel and facility management; (5)
strong communication and effective team-building skills; (6) grant writing and
procuring additional funding; (7) building diversity and involvement in
community activities; (8) leadership in maintaining safe school environments; and
(9) planning and funding of school facilities.
Duplin
County is located in southeastern North Carolina and is less than an hour from
Fayetteville, Wilmington, and the Atlantic Ocean. The county seat is Kenansville. The county
has a population of approximately 53,000.
Duplin County's towns are rich with history and the county is home to
several famous wineries, premier golf courses and cozy inns. The area also boasts additional outdoor
recreational activities, including camping, hunting, fishing, swimming and
hiking.
The
Duplin County Board of Education consists of six members who are elected to
four-year terms. The school system includes
sixteen schools with approximately 8,700 students in prekindergarten through
twelfth grade.
