SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS SOUGHT
MARTIN COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA
The Martin County Board of Education is seeking a superintendent to lead the school system in its continuing pursuit of excellence. Candidates must meet the legal requirements to serve as a superintendent in North Carolina or be qualified to serve under the State Board of Education’s alternative guidelines. A doctorate degree or progress toward a doctorate degree is preferred. Superintendent or assistant superintendent experience is also preferred. A successful candidate will be required to live in Martin County. Applications are due by January 11, 2009.
A successful candidate must demonstrate ability and
success in (1) educational leadership;
(2) goal setting and monitoring achievement; (3) fostering community
and/or intergovernmental partnerships; (4) administration and organization of
long-term and short-term planning, budgeting, and personnel and facility
management; (5) strong communication and effective team-building skills; (6)
grant writing and procuring additional funding; (7) building diversity and
involvement in community activities; (8) leadership in maintaining safe school
environments; and (9) planning and funding of school facilities.
Martin County is located in the middle of
eastern North Carolina and has a county population of approximately
25,000. Its largest city is Williamston,
which has a population of almost 6, 000.
The county school system includes 12 schools, and serves about 4, 000
students from prekindergarten through 12th grade.
