SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS SOUGHT

 

The Pamlico County Board of Education in Pamlico County, North Carolina, is seeking a superintendent to lead the school system in its continuing pursuit of excellence.  Candidates must meet the legal requirements to serve as a superintendent in North Carolina or be qualified to serve under the State Board of Education’s alternative guidelines.  A doctorate degree or progress toward a doctorate degree is preferred, but not required.  Central office level, principal and teaching experience is also preferred.  A successful candidate will be required to live in Pamlico County.  Applications are due by September 24, 2008.

 

A successful candidate must demonstrate ability and success in (1) educational leadership with broad knowledge of curriculum and staff development;  (2) goal setting and monitoring achievement; (3) fostering community and/or intergovernmental partnerships; (4) administration and organization of long-term and short-term planning, budgeting, and personnel and facility management;  (5) strong communication and effective team-building skills; (6) grant writing and procuring additional funding; (7) building diversity and involvement in community activities; (8) leadership in maintaining safe school environments; and (9) planning and funding of school facilities.

 

The Pamlico County School System includes four schools serving approximately 1,500 students.  Pamlico County is located in the center of eastern North Carolina.  It is a peninsula surrounded by waters of the Neuse River and Pamlico Sound.  Pamlico County is a rural county comprised of 213,000 acres of land and 151,000 acres of water.  The county’s current population is approximately 13,000.  Blessed with fresh air blowing off the rivers and bays and an abundance of natural recreational resources, good schools, good government and a rich heritage, Pamlico County offers an excellent location to families seeking a home.  The people of the area exhibit a pride in their culture that is evidenced in the schools, the homes, and the overall community.  The people of this community have a love for their land and heritage that is quickly acquired by those who discover the riches of coastal living.
