Fall District Meeting Event @ Virtual Event

Due to the pandemic, the September district meetings have been canceled and have shifted to a virtual event. The Fall District Event is a virtual session that will be held on Thursday, September 10, beginning at 3 p.m. Speakers include:

  • NCSBA President Brenda Stephens
  • NCSBA Executive Director Ed Dunlap
  • NC State Board of Education Chair Eric Davis
  • And more!

The event recording will be available for viewing until September 17. The registration cost is $15 per person and currently includes 2.0 hours of training credit.

Our 2020 Fall Law Conference is going virtual!

Plan to join us October 7-9 via Zoom for this year’s conference. During a school year unlike any other, this is the perfect time to learn about the many legal issues currently affecting public schools. Take a look at our agenda. This conference is designed for board members, administrators, and board attorneys.

Registration is $150 per day or $450 for the full conference. We will send Zoom information and materials to participants in a few weeks. Note: These sessions will not be recorded.

Any board members interested in attending this virtual conference should connect with their board assistant in order to avoid duplicate registrations.

Title IX and Board Policy: An Orientation Guide (Webinar)

After the Department of Education issued new regulations on Title IX sexual harassment in May 2020, school systems across the country were left scrambling to put policies and procedures in place to implement the new requirements. This webinar explains why NCSBA issued six new policies on discrimination, harassment, and bullying in July 2020 and what’s included in those new policies. Most importantly, the webinar will give you a working knowledge of the two new Title IX sexual harassment policies and what happens next after your school system receives a report or complaint of sexual harassment.

Registration is open for our virtual Board Officers Academy to be held on Friday, February 26.

NCSBA’s Board Officers Academy will explore roles and responsibilities of board officers. This session is open to all board members that are currently serving in board leadership positions or aspire to serve in such capacities. All sessions will be presented live through Zoom.

The academy will be hosted by NCSBA President Amy Churchill and include presentations from NC State Board of Education Chairman Eric Davis, NC State Board of Education Vice Chairman Alan Duncan, and NC State Superintendent Catherine Truitt to name a few.

Compliance with the Open Meetings Law provides for transparency and accountability and is vital to good school board governance. This webinar will provide an overview of the North Carolina Open Meetings Law as it applies to local school board members and official school board meetings.
