The Onslow County School district plans to build 5 new schools in 10 years with a new $145 million capital improvement plan. Dixon Middle School is the first on the list, and Tuesday students shared their ideas for the new building.
Eighth graders shared their ideas with architects from Raleigh Tuesday on what they think future middle schoolers will want. They suggested more green space where students ecan eat lunch outside, a bigger and better gym, green technology and security features like new locks requiring a fingerprint or code and bullet proof glass. The students say they feel good about having a part in the planning, eve though they will not reap the benefits firsthand.
“I can make everybody else’s middle school experience better than this one with the new school and new programs,” said George Murphy.
