Annual Conference - 2025|

The North Carolina School Boards Association (NCSBA) honored winners of three statewide student contests held in conjunction with the NCSBA Annual Conference that took place November 12-14. Students from public schools across the state submitted entries for an elementary school poster contest, a middle school video contest, and a high school video contest.

The high school video contest teams placing first, second, and third attended the awards ceremony held on November 12. Cash prizes were sponsored by NCSBA and Fairbanks, LLC.

  • First Place and $3,000 – Columbus Career and College Academy, Columbus County Schools
  • Second Place and $2,000 – Clinton High School, Clinton City Schools
  • Third Place and $1,000 – Franklin County Early College High School, Franklin County Schools

In addition, judges identified additional videos to receive honorable mention. All finalist and honorable mention videos are available for viewing at http://www.ncsba.org/training/student-contests.

The middle school video contest winning video group each received a check for the class that will be presented during an upcoming local school board meeting. Winners were as follows:

  • First Place – ECPPS Micro School, Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools
  • Second Place – William R. Davie Middle STEM Academy, Halifax County Schools
  • Third Place – Southern Nash Middle School, Nash County Public Schools

NCSBA’s elementary school poster contest recognizes first-, second-, and third-place winners in two grade level groups – K-2 and 3-5. Each winner received a certificate and art kit that will be presented to students during an upcoming local school board meeting. Poster contest winners were as follows:

In the grades K-2 category:

  • First Place – Victoria Lightner, second grade, Cartoogechaye Elementary, Macon County Schools
  • Second Place – Derrick A. McCaskey, second grade, W.H. Robinson Elementary, Pitt County Schools
  • Third Place (tie) – Ra’Shaun Pratt, kindergarten, Virginia Cross Elementary, Chatham County Schools and Ariel Ramirez, second grade, Siler City Elementary, Chatham County Schools

In the grades 3-5 category:

  • First Place – Arizona Lane, fifth grade, Virginia Cross Elementary, Chatham County Schools
  • Second Place – Dominik Lightner, fourth grade, Cartoogechaye Elementary, Macon County Schools
  • Third Place – JaCorion A. Anderson, fourth grade, W. H. Robinson Elementary, Pitt County Schools
