This Legislative Alert is to inform you that tonight House Republicans publicly released their proposed adjusted state budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year. This would modify the second year of the two-year budget that became law last October. House Speaker Tim Moore (R-Cleveland) stated that committee hearings will be held Tuesday with floor votes on Wednesday and Thursday. HB 263: 2024 Appropriations Act will be sent to the Senate once it passes the House later this week.

The proposed House budget increases beginning teacher pay from $41,000 to $44,000. K-12 teachers will see an average salary increase of 4.4%. The chart below compares the teacher salary schedule that was approved in 2024-25 budget that passed last year with the House’s proposed adjusted budget for 2024-25.

In addition to teacher raises, the proposed House budget:
Provides a 1% across-the-board salary increase for all other school employees, in addition to the already budgeted 3% raise.
Reinstates Master’s pay.
Provides a one-time 2% cost-of-living supplement for retirees.
Provides school safety grants:
$33 million in recurring funds for School Resource Officers (SROs) in middle and elementary schools.
$35 million in nonrecurring funds for equipment, training, and students in crisis.
Fully funds Opportunity Scholarships.
