Judges Selected from Hundreds of Submissions for Contests Sponsored by School Boards Association

Greensboro, NC – The North Carolina School Boards Association (NCSBA) announced the winners of three statewide student contests held in conjunction with the NCSBA Annual Conference held November 18-20. Students from public schools across the state submitted entries for an elementary school poster contest, a middle school video contest, and a high school video contest.

The high school video contest teams placing first, second, and third attended the awards ceremony held on November 19 at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro. Cash prizes were sponsored by NCSBA and Fairbanks, LLC.

  • First Place and $3,000 – Vance County High School, Vance County Schools
  • Second Place and $2,000 – Richmond Senior High School 2, Richmond County Schools
  • Third Place and $1,000 – Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Early College, Elizabeth City-Pasquotank County Schools

In addition, judges identified additional videos to receive honorable mention. All finalist and honorable mention videos are available for viewing at www.ncsba.org/training/student-contests.

The middle school video contest winning video group each received a gift card for the class that will be presented during an upcoming local school board meeting. Winners were as follows:

  • First Place – Hamlet Middle School, Richmond County Schools
  • Second Place – Frink Middle School, Lenoir County Schools
  • Third Place – STEM Early High School, Vance County Schools

NCSBA’s Elementary Poster Contest recognizes first-, second-, and third-place winners in two grade level groups – K-2 and 3-5. Each winner received a certificate and art kit that will be presented to students during an upcoming local school board meeting. Poster contest winners were as follows:

In the grades K-2 category:

  • First Place – Marilyn Fox, second grade, Chatham Grove Elementary, Chatham County Schools
  • Second Place – Pablo Correa Montiel, second grade, West Rockingham Elementary School, Richmond County Schools
  • Third Place – Piper Finn, second grade, Rock Ridge Elementary, Wilson County SchoolsIn the Grades 3-5 category

In the grades 3-5 category:

  • First Place – Caroline Bowles, third grade, Bethlehem Elementary, Alexander County Schools
  • Second Place – Hira Mohammad, fifth grade, G.R. Edwards Elementary, Nash County Public Schools
  • Third Place – Arizona Lane, fourth grade, Virginia Cross Elementary, Chatham County Schools
  • Third Place – Noa Acey, fifth grade, Chatham Grove Elementary, Chatham County Schools
