Stand Up for Public Education|

Star students are getting recognition this graduation season and taking time to share the spotlight with local teachers.

A ceremony and reception on Wednesday evening brought 11 students to the Schiele Museum in Gastonia.

They are recognized for being the top academic scholars at the schools they attend.

The students — one from each Gaston County public high school — wrote essays about educators who have left lasting impressions on their lives. Those people are recognized as star teachers for dedication to their profession.

Two students are honored from Ashbrook High School in Gastonia this year because their GPAs are the same, said Gaston County Schools spokesman Todd Hagans.
