Annual Conference - 2024|

Greensboro, NC – The Innovation and Excellence in Public Education Award was awarded to Caldwell County Schools for its Beginning Teacher Support Program. This is an award established to recognize the exemplary work of school boards that have found creative solutions to district challenges.

Recognizing the critical need for more intensive and intentional support for first-year teachers, the Caldwell County School System initiated the Beginning Teacher Support Program. The primary need addressed by this program was to provide beginning teachers with robust support to ensure their professional growth, emotional well-being, and overall effectiveness in the classroom.

The program’s positive impact is reflected in the significantly lower teacher attrition rate in Caldwell County (1.7%) compared to the North Carolina state average (26.5%) for first-year teachers. This number reflects over a decade of structured and intentional support for beginning teachers. The ongoing success of the program is due in part to regular feedback and input from stakeholders to ensure its continued effectiveness.

For its exemplary work, NCSBA awarded the district during the awards ceremony held on November 19 during the Association’s annual conference.
