Five Davidson County Schools have received recognition for improving student academic and behavior outcome as part of a national and state initiative.

North Davidson High and Southwood and Welcome elementary schools were honored as N.C. Positive Behavior Intervention and Support Green Ribbon Schools, and Ledford Middle and Pilot Elementary schools were named model schools in PBIS.

A Green Ribbon School uses a systematic approach that establishes and creates environments that are more predictable and effective for achieving academic and social goals. The goal is to make sure all students have access to the most effective and accurately implemented instruction and behavioral practices and interventions possible.

A model school has met all the requirements for the recognition and has demonstrated the results that it and the PBIS school teams have achieved by working together, using school data to implement research-based practices and developing supportive systems to teach all students new behaviors.

North Carolina has participated in PBIS since 2001, and the county system has been a part of the program since 2002. The system has 30 schools that received PBIS training, and 24 actively participated in PBIS during the 2012-13 school year.
