The Anson County Board of Education honored several students during its monthly meeting May 27.

“There are a lot of wonderful things going on in Anson County Schools,” School board chair Lisa Davis said.

First up, Superintendent Michael Freeman issued certificates of appreciation to the coaches and members of the Anson Middle School softball team, who won first place in their conference this season. “We look forward to seeing you here for many years to come,” Freeman told the students.

Several Anson High School students were also honored for athletics. Allen Campbell and J’Quan Wall were recognized for placing in the N.C. High School Athletics Association 3A track meet. Wall was also recognized for placing in the wrestling tournament, along with wrestling teammate V’dial Polk.

Two students were recognized for their acceptance into the North Carolina School of Math and Science — Christopher Hal Terry and Marci Sessions. Both students will be missed, Freeman said, but he added that the school system is proud of their achievements.
