Greensboro, NC – The North Carolina School Boards Association (NCSBA) presented its County Commissioners of the Year Award to the Chatham Board of County Commissioners during the NCSBA Annual Conference held from November 18-20. The County Commissioners of the Year Award is given to a board of county commissioners that is nominated by the local board of education in recognition of their extraordinary efforts.

In nominating the Chatham County commissioners for this award, the board of education in Chatham County considered their commissioners a close partner to their school district, actively participating in school events and maintaining regular and open communication with the board of education. Their dedication to local public schools extends to instructors, as the board of commissioners approved a $2,000 increase this year to the local teacher supplement, recognizing the essential role teachers play in the success of students and the community at large.

These county leaders have demonstrated a commitment to hearing diverse perspectives and ensuring the district’s schools are well-supported. According to the Chatham Board of Education, their relationship with the board of county commissioners is built on a foundation of understanding and a shared vision of success for students, making them a proven partner.
